So then, what is a kingdom? A kingdom is the territory over which the owner—king—governs. He imparts it with his personal will, purpose, and intent while producing a culture with values, morals and lifestyle that reflect his desires for his citizens.
Since the fall of man, man has tried to initiate this concept of the kingdom, but throughout history mankind’s attempt to establish a heavenly kingdom on earth has failed. One attempt was the tower of Babel. Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:1-4
Keep in mind that the kingdom concept as a whole has been lost to contemporary culture, especially in the western world. I first learned about kingdoms while attending public school in Brooklyn, New York. But that was many, many years ago!
In man’s attempt to create a kingdom here on earth, man has attempted to design his own form of government. Here are just a few examples: communism, socialism, and democracies with presidents, dictators or prime ministers leading. All of us are seeking the Kingdom even if we aren’t aware of it. Remember this, according to the Lord Jesus, the most important priority of all mankind should be seeking and studying the heavenly Kingdom government and the administration of the Lord God and His purpose and plan to impact the earth. The question is, how does one explore the concept, nature, function, parts, principles and power of the Kingdom? The answer is through wisdom and understanding. My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly. Proverbs 2:1-7
To truly be effective in the Kingdom of God—meaning His government—one must understand the concept of a kingdom, Kingdom philosophy, government, culture, economy, citizenship, provision, worship, protocol and representation. The Lord God made this statement to His representative Hosea concerning the chosen people Israel: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6
Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. Proverbs 4:5-8
The secret to a full and fulfilled life is understanding and applying the Kingdom government of Heaven here on earth. Remember that the ignorance of the Kingdom concept makes it difficult to understand fully the message of God’s Constitution –the Bible.
The concept of “kingdom” came from the Lord God. The King of His Kingdom is a benevolent King who cares for and meets the needs of His citizens. He laid out all the benefits and responsibilities of His citizens in His testaments—His Word. Then He sent His only Son to give us entrance and access to His Kingdom and, finally, He sent His Kingdom Governor—who is the Holy Spirit—to lead and guide us in this Kingdom life. He has made everything available to us to live an abundant life in His Kingdom. Seek it!
Manmade kingdoms all falter and crumble under power, greed, corruption and selfish desires. Only God’s Kingdom is pure, eternal and unshaken by mankind. “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are His…He builds up nations, and He destroys them. He expands nations, and He abandons them. He strips kings of understanding and leaves them wandering in a pathless wasteland.” Job 12:13, 23-24 NLT
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Hebrews 12:28-29
Remember, your greatest asset in the Kingdom is the faith you have in the King’s Word.
