Jesus' Original Mission
There are many views and opinions on what Jesus' original mission was. I just want to say: How could they miss it? He mentioned it over and over so many times in the constitution in the Gospels. Yet many are still confused as to what His mission, message, methods and purpose was for coming to earth. Scholars have dissected, examined, reviewed, revised and written volumes on these subjects. Yet they still don't have a clue.
However, for us to discover the original purpose and mission of the Savior, it should be obvious that we must consider His own declarations concerning His purpose and assignment for coming into the world. Let us take the time now to read what the Constitution has to say.
Jesus' first public statement was made at the beginning of His earthly mission, when He was 30 years old, after being baptized by His first cousin, John the Baptist, and completing forty days of fasting, during which He overcame Satan's temptations to compromise His assignment:
Constitutional Scripture Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand".
Like many others, we missed it. The word "near", in some translations is rendered "at hand", simply means "has arrived". In other words, His first declaration was the introduction and arrival of a kingdom, and not a religion. In essence, He brought a government to earth.
Please note: When Christ sent out His disciples He told them what message to preach:
Constitutional Scripture Matthew 10:7 "And as you go, preach, saying, the Kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Read what Jesus said to the Pharisees concerning the demon-possessed blind and mute man:
Constitutional Scripture Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
Once again Jesus makes this statement of the unforgiving servant:
Constitutional Scripture Matthew 18:23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
Jesus gave a clear sign of the end:
Constitutional Scripture Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.
Jesus was focused on His purpose and His mission:
Constitutional Scripture Luke 4:43-44 but He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities, also, because for this purpose I have been sent" And was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
Constitutional Scripture Luke 8:1 Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him.
They learned and wanted to know more about the Kingdom of God:
Constitutional Scripture Luke 9:11 But when the multitudes knew it, they follow Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the Kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.
We are to seek the Kingdom , for the Father wants us to have the Kingdom:
Constitutional Scripture Luke 12:31-32 But seek the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
