And where are all the gods
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds"

When you think of heroes who comes to your mind? Washington? Lincoln? Churchill? Roosevelt? King? Malcolm X? Kennedy? Wigglesworth? Edwards? Graham? Maybe you were so blessed to be able to say your father or mother was your greatest hero!
In today's society, we examine and dissect any leader who might actually be someone we could look up to. We throw everything at them and see what sticks. We want to prove they aren't what they pretend to be and "out" their secrets. But deep down, the desire is to finally find that rare and precious commodity--a true hero who has integrity and standards! Our culture's "trust" has been broken countless times. Both our politicians and religious leaders have broken our trust and fallen short to the point that we are a cynical and jaded society.
Heroes don't need to be perfect, but they do need moral absolutes and standards that they will not compromise. Heroes need to realize that people are watching and accept that responsibility to lead those who are watching, by their actions.
Yes, our culture needs heroes as much as a wound needs a healing salve and bandages. We need heroes in every area of life to hold up the banners of integrity, self-sacrifice, honor, morality and high standards. Heroes to encourage those watching to go higher. Let's start with God's people, equipped with the Holy Spirit and God's Word. Who is better prepared to be a hero for today's world! Whether or not you become a hero to the world, you can be a hero to the people in your life!
Joshua 1:8-9 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
~~ Be blessed, Arlene
