This relates to most of us in one way or another. We cling to what we have--what we know--and are held captive by it. We hold tight to "good enough" to the point that it begins to hold us. God has the best available for us. He only asks us to let go of what we have--good enough relationships--good enough jobs--just getting by but never knowing what it feels like to experience God's best!
This is even true in many churches. They stay with good enough--never changing, challenging, taking risks or doing what God is showing them to do because they might lose parishioners and their money. Playing it safe should never be an option where God is concerned. They trust more in what they have than in God. I do not believe there was ever a great move of God by playing it safe.
“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked Revelation 2:15-17
Are you holding on to something that is holding you back? As long as you settle for "good enough" that is where you will stay. Letting go and taking risks can be as frightening as stepping off in the darkness... you don't know how far the next step is!
Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart (with all your mind...all your possessions),
And lean not on your own understanding (the status quo, the familiar);
6) In ALL your ways acknowledge Him (He is your source, your provider, the giver of all good things),
And He SHALL direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Be blessed! Arlene
