I am glad to finally see October in my rear view mirror! When did we start celebrating Halloween for a full month? It has been a full month of the undead aka zombies, vampires, murder, torture, Freddy, Jason and Michael. It's been slicing and dicing and chowing down on our fellow man. We see pictures of things we (and our children!) should never see. Have you heard the old phrase "Give the devil his due"? Well we give him the whole month of October! In today's world, Jesus gets December and Satan gets October. The month of October makes me want to remove my cable ,but my apartment complex forces us to pay for cable whether we want it or not. If our battle is in our minds, why would we use our receptacles-- our eyes & ears--to give Satan ammunition and make our battle so much harder? If we are Christians--Kingdom Citizens--why would we celebrate all that is unholy? Why would we love and entertain what God hates? If we enjoy all that is unholy, and "like spirits attract" then what is in us?? Children dressing up in cute costumes and getting candy, to me, is harmless. But murder, torture, cannibalism and all the other evil they throw at us in movies and pictures is not harmless. Viewing those things as entertainment is not. They get in our minds and become tools used against us.
Ephesians 5:7-12
Don't participate in the things these people do. For though your hearts were once full of darkness, now you are full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, rebuke and expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling or sorcery, or allow them to interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is an object of horror and disgust to the Lord.
Obviously we don't physically place our children on an altar and sacrifice them. We place them on the TV altar... the video game altar. We sacrifice them up just the same. We give them over to evil things and allow those things to get in their minds and grow. It is our responsibility.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Those are the seeds that should be sown in the garden of your minds. Then you will reap a good harvest. Pay attention to the things you are always focusing on... what you always talk about. That comes from the seed you have sown. What is in YOUR garden?
