Your Purpose Gives You Confidence
Purpose assures you that what you are doing is the right thing that you should be doing. Jesus had this confidence, because He understood His purpose for His life. In the Constitution of the Gospel of Matthew, it tells the story in which Jesus healed a man who was blind and mute because he had a demon. When the religious leaders saw that Jesus had the power to cast out demons, they accused Him of receiving His power from Beelzebub, the chief of demons.
Focus Point: I want you to notice, Jesus was unperturbed by their charges and accusations. He used the image of a country or a family fighting within itself to show the falsehood of their allegations.
Constitutional Scripture: Matthew 12:25, 27-28 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 27) And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28) But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
Please note: Jesus had confidence in His God-given purpose. He insisted that His power came from God, not Satan. This same confidence in the power of the Holy Spirit in His life was visible when Jesus addressed the congregation in the synagogue at Nazareth.
Constitutional Scripture: Luke 4:18-19, 21 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19) To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. 21) And He began to say to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Please note: Now that is confidence. By applying the words of the prophet Isaiah to Himself, Jesus boldly proclaimed that He was the Messiah. Now how bold can one be? Keep in mind, He didn't actually say that, but His listeners certainly would have made the connection. The knowledge of His purpose gave Jesus the confidence to pursue His God-given tasks.
Focus Point: Keep in mind, the same confidence is available to us. When we know what God intends for our lives. Or to make it personal, for your life. We can get on with it, being assured that our work is not in vain. Remember what the scripture says:
Constitutional Scriptures:
Proverbs 19:21 There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless the Lord's counsel--that will stand.
Isaiah 14:24 The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand.
Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand.
Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.
Focus Point: What I am saying, when you discover God's purpose for your life, you can be confident and persuaded that you will succeed. This confidence will also inspire the trust in others.
Remember, purpose is the key to confidence.
