Your Faith in Jesus the Christ: the Work of God Pt 2
Let's continue. Note, the people around Jesus that day tried to compare their experience of the bread and fish feeding over 5000, to the experience of the Israelites in the desert being fed by manna (bread) coming down from Heaven.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.
Apparently, they were trying to convince Jesus that they followed Moses because of the miracles: manna, liberation from Egyptian slavery, the parting of the Red Sea. But King Jesus countered by reminding them that the manna did not come from Moses but from the Lord God.
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
It is dangerous to trust in miracles, because the act of a miracle is temporary. It is an event, a "fix", and people will always be looking for the next one and want to go from miracle to miracle. Besides, what "Christians" call "miracles", Kingdom citizens know to be standard procedure in the Kingdom. This is why King Jesus tells us to put our faith in Him, and not in things that He may do for us. Listen to what Jesus stated to those who followed Him: "For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
There are two kinds of bread being discussed here. First, the "bread of blessings", such as manna or the bread the people ate that Jesus provided. Second, is the "true bread" or "bread of the Lord God" that comes down from Heaven. Both the bread of blessing and the true bread come from the same place, Heaven, but the bread of blessing is temporary.
Now, we are not supposed to become satisfied with the temporary bread of blessing. The purpose of the bread of blessing is to whet our appetite for the true bread. What is the nature of the true bread? The principle of this discourse with the people is to teach us that the Source is always more important than the resource and the Manufacturer more important than the product. I cannot stress this enough. This is critical, because the resource is disposable, but the Source is permanent (God's Word). Remember what Jesus stated in Mark 13: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
We should never put our faith in the resource, but in the source. Jesus made it very plain:
Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.
