Envision a funeral of a loved one. Now imagine yourself driving to the church where the body is laid out. As you walk to the front of the church where the body is and look inside the casket, you come face to face with yourself. Are you now envisioning this? This is your funeral, twenty-three years from today. All these people have come to honor you and to express their feelings, thoughts, love and appreciation for your life. As you take a seat and wait for the service to begin, you look at the program which was given to you at the door when you first arrived. There are several individuals that will speak.
The first speaker is from your family, immediate and extended: your children, brothers, sisters, nephews nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandchildren who have come from all over the country to say goodbye.
The second speaker is to be one of your friends, someone who can give a sense of who you were as a person before and after you sought the kingdom.
The third speaker is from your employment or profession.
The fourth speaker is from the church that you attended or a community service organization in which you served.
The fifth and final speaker is your spouse.
Focus Point: Now take a minute to think deeply concerning the previous scene. What would you like each of these speakers to say about you and your life? What kind of husband or wife, father or mother, would you like their words to reflect? What kind of mentor or mentee were you? What kind of friend or working associate were you?
Focus Point: Before you read any further, please take a few minutes to seriously consider these questions. I want you to know I firmly believe that the greatest tragedy in this life is not death, but life without purpose and the fulfillment of one's potential.
Remember the greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life; the life that fails to fulfill its purpose and potential.
Focus Point: Now living an effective life, is operating in your purpose using your potential to accomplish your destiny. You may ask yourself how can I know my purpose? The answer lies in what Jesus stated:
Constitutional Scripture: Matthew 6:33 But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.
Focus Point: Of all the things you do, seek God's government for your life. His righteousness is His laws and principles that will be your standard for living on planet earth.
Thought: I truly believe that it is better to have never been born than to live and not fulfill the purpose for which I was given life. God's Constitution supports or echoes this statement:
Constitutional Scripture: Ecclesiastes 6:3-6 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he—4) for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness. 5) Though it has not seen the sun or known anything, this has more rest than that man, 6) even if he lives a thousand years twice—but has not seen goodness. Do not all go to one place?
Definition of Thought: Now the assertion of this passage is that, it would be better for an individual if they had never been born, than for him to live on this planet called earth for many years and not to fulfill the purpose for which God the Creator and Lord gave him at birth,. In essence, when you become aware of the tremendous potential God the Father has instilled inside of you, you are obligated to release that wealth to the world around you.
