As I stated earlier, people today shop for relationships the way they shop for clothes. They try something on for size and if it doesn't fit, they simply try something else. When they find something that suits them, they simply wear it one time and bring it back to the store where they purchased it with the receipt, stating that it doesn't fit. Does that sound like anyone you may know? Some individuals are a little more enduring. They find something they think they really like. They wear it for awhile until it fades out of style. Then they throw it out or hang it up in the back of their closet and rush out to replace it. There are so many that treat their spouses just like that.
This is sad but very true. We live in a disposable "cast-off-and throw-away" society that has largely lost any sense of permanence. At one time, I was in that stream of thought, that mind-set, if you will. But after coming to the knowledge of the truth, through embracing the Kingdom concept, I saw the Word of God totally differently. That is when the transformation of my mind began to change. I am still in the transformation process every single day. I have learned that it is only through the transformation of your mind that you will know the will of God. The ambassador Paul stated it perfectly: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
If you take time to notice, ours is a world of expiration dates, limited shelf life, and planned obsolescence. Now what do I mean by that? It is in the process of becoming obsolete. In this world system, nothing is absolute. Truth only exists in the eye of the beholder and morality is the whim of the moment. Living in such an environment, it is a wonder that people ask, "Doesn't anything last anymore?" In my opinion, you can't depend on most of the preachers and teachers today, who are supposed to represent the Lord God. They are too busy promoting themselves and their agenda. But there is one thing I do know: you can depend on Jesus the Christ keeping His Word: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. He also made this statement: He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Remember one major symptom of a sick society is when we attach to our human relationships the same attitude of impersonal transience that we display toward the inanimate and disposable items that we use in everyday life. Marriage is the deepest and most intimate of all human relationships and even it is under assault. My final words to you: Marriage was the Lord God's idea.
