When I was religious and possessed a religious mindset, I used to think of this United States and the city that I resided in, as my government. This was before I embraced the Kingdom concept.
After President Obama's first term in office, the question arose: What do you think about your President and government now? My reply to that is, "I only have one king and government". It doesn't matter who occupies the White House or who is the speaker of the house. There is only one government, and it belongs to Him who's throne will never be moved or topped. You see, my king is not voted in. Almighty God, is King of kings, and Lord of lords. His rule in Heaven is eternal, without beginning or end. But He also created the Earth and established His kingdom there as well.
Remember this one thing: The Lord God has no need for a man-made temple because Heaven and Earth, the whole cosmos, is His sanctuary. Thus says the Lord: Heaven is My throne and Earth is my footstool. Where is the house that you will build for me? And where is the place of My rest?
The words earth and world are used interchangeably, but really here, they refer to two different things. I am referring to this next scripture. "...for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's and He has set the world upon them". Earth refers to the place, the physical planet on which we reside, while the world refers to order or governing affairs. God created the physical Earth and then set on it the "world" of His government and divine order. Earth, then, has to do with location, while world deals with who is running things.
Remember, God rules directly in heaven, but His plan for Earth was to rule it indirectly through human representatives that He created in His own image. From the beginning the earth was designed to be ruled by one government: the Kingdom of Heaven. Any other government is illegal on this planet. This is why the Bible makes it clear that human governments exist only by God's permission and that He ordained them for the protection of society and the common human welfare until the day His Kingdom government on Earth is fully restored. In a letter to Rome, Paul wrote:
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.
Satan, the pretender, may believe that he runs the show and controls the governments of the earth. But it is the King of Heaven who guides human history and destiny toward His desired ends. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. In the Book of Isaiah, the Lord Himself declares: “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath.
