From Genesis to the book of Revelation in God's Constitution (the Bible), the Word often uses the word "house" to refer to the smallest and most basic unit of society, the family. The "house" is the foundation of society, and marriage is the foundation of the "house". This is why we should train our children and not just be their friends. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Now to train means to dedicate, give instruction, and most of all, to take quality and meaningful time with. Now the health of a marriage determines the health of a "house" and the health of a nation's "houses" determines the health of the nation. Keep this in mind, a healthy "house" is the key to both a healthy church and a healthy society.
It is the same as in the Church. A church's health depends on the health of the "houses" of its members, particularly those in leadership. Good family management is a fundamental requirement for church leaders. The ambassador Paul made this quite clear: This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. Note the ambassador Paul stated he, not she. He goes on to state: A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)
Please take note once again: a healthy "house" is the key to both a healthy church and a healthy society The measure of a "house" is a healthy marriage to sure. And most definitely, marriage is the foundational institution.
Proverbs 22:6 I Timothy 3:1-5
