For those of you who have been married more than once, but now have come into the knowledge of His Truth, you are cleaned through the Word. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. At this present time the courts are attempting to change the institution of marriage, or should I say, attempting to define marriage. Remember this, marriage is a steady, unchanging institution entered into by a man and a woman who are constantly changing as they grow and mature. Those changes can be unnerving and frustrating at times, and can easily ignite into conflict. Respect for the honorableness and stability of marriage can give a husband and his wife a solid anchor that enables them to weather the storms of change as they grow toward oneness.
Please take note of this statement: The success in marriage does not depend on a husband and wife committing themselves to each other, as much as it does to their committing themselves to the marriage, the unchanging institution that they have mutually entered into. Being committed to the Lord God's institution of marriage supersedes all other excuses to leave your spouse; unless your spouse wants to leave, then God isn't a God of chaos, but peace. If your spouse is an unbeliever, then let them go: Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
Now recognizing the unchanging nature of marriage as an institution can encourage them during times of conflict to seek alternatives to ending their marriage. Remember, if you are a Kingdom citizens in good standing, there isn't any other recourse but to obey His Word.
