I will share this thought with you. We must all acquire knowledge to expand our intellect. Knowledge is a foundation to make an effective righteous decision. King Solomon made this statement: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. Many individuals misquote this saying by leaving out the word "heart". King Solomon didn't say "As a person thinks, so is he". I view the word "heart" as the most important word in this statement. It surely denotes the center of our reasoning. I truly believe that the heart is equivalent to what the psychologists today call the "subconscious mind". I suppose then we could paraphrase Solomon's statement this way: "As an individual thinks in their subconscious mind, so are they".
This term indicates that our subconscious mind exists behind our conscious mental functions. It is where everything that we believe is "stored", much like a computer which has information stored on its hard drive. This is one of the main reasons why it is so important for those of us who claim to be representative of Jesus the Christ, to study the Word of God with all our minds and souls. The Word of God will transform your mind and then your behavior will fall in line.
When you are looking for certain information on the internet, or in your files on your hard drive, you may receive information that you weren't looking for. But in your search, one word started a chain reaction of your past searches. You bring that other portion of the hard drive to the attention of your conscious mind, where you can consider it. In a similar way, we can bring thoughts that are in our "heart" or subconscious mind to the surface of our conscious mind for reflection and assessment so that we can begin to evaluate what we really believe and why we believe.
Once the heart embraces information that is non-productive, then it spreads. Jesus described it like this: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. It becomes a domino effect, and is non-productive and ineffective to the Kingdom. We must evaluate our thoughts on a daily basis. By doing so, we protect our heart.
