When Mankind Declared Independence

The earth had been created. The colony established. The King’s children were provided with a rich home and given authority to rule and prosper on earth on behalf of the King. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28
However, something happened to disrupt the home country’s plan of expanding the realm of His heavenly kingdom on earth. This is a rebellion that started in the home of heaven and spread to the colony. This rebellion was instigated by one of the King’s top generals and his name was Lucifer. He attempted a coup of the heavenly Kingdom and was banished from the King’s presence, along with his followers. Read in God’s Constitution what John was shown:
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” Revelation 12:7-12
The plan of Lucifer was to separate the citizens of the colony from their true Creator. So he went to the colony in disguise, where the King’s children had just begun to rule, and infiltrated their government by using craftiness and deceit.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:1-5
What was Lucifer’s purpose? His aim was to sever the relationship between mankind and God through disobedience. So he went to the colony—garden—in disguise. His first priority was to get the Lord God’s children to believe a lie and to make them think that the King wasn’t telling them the truth, for Satan is the father of all lies. Lucifer went to the “weaker vessel” with his deception. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. Genesis 3:5-7
Please note, Lucifer, the rebellious general, had planted doubt about the motivation of the King and distrust grew in their hearts. If you take a moment to think about it, you can see this in people you come in contact with. The world’s society is full of rebellion against God’s Word. Satan attempts to exalt himself above God through mankind. Satan’s purpose was to accomplish this broken relationship by promoting a spirit of rebellion and independence among His children. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 20:4-5
This act of disobedience seems to be a harmless act that would benefit them, but was actually a great disaster for all mankind. They did not count the cost of their disobedience. It represented a serious breach of faith in the King and Lord. If they couldn’t be trusted with the simplest aspect of their assignment, then how could they transform the earth into the culture of the Kingdom of heaven? Especially now that their minds and hearts were shown to be aligned with the King’s enemy.
As long as I have lived on this earth, I have seen many, including religious leaders, who “fall short” of their calling. Euphemisms are used to numb the full effect of disobedience. They “stumbled”, “strayed”, “made an error in judgment”, "they made me do it" etc. Many think of “sin” as something a person does, but it goes far deeper than that. Sin is rebellion against the essential nature of our Lord and King.
Sin exalts itself above God.
Sin is ultimately separation from God, our Lord and King.
Sin says, "Not God's Will but mine."
Keep in mind that Adam and Eve lost their essential source of life as human beings—it was the King’s Spirit. Before they embraced Satan’s deception, they were Spirit-driven; after it they were flesh-driven (carnal). Their disobedience declared their independence from the Kingdom of Heaven.
The death that the King referred to was not an immediate bodily death. They did not physically die right away, but they lost their essential source. They lost that intimate, life-giving connection with their Lord and King! The Spirit of the King gave life to their spirit, soul, and body. The Holy Spirit—our Governor—alone was their dynamic connection between the seen and the unseen realms.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:8-13
Note that as soon as disobedience entered, blaming someone else and excuses came with it!
People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13 NLT
