What is Your Place in the Kingdom?
Each of us who turn to Jesus the Christ is a "stone" in the magnificent spiritual "palace" of the Kingdom of God on earth. We are called and equipped as kings and priests to represent that Kingdom before the rest of the world. Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. This is why it is so important that we read and study the written Word so that we do not misrepresent Him.
Throughout human history, the religious society has generally separated priest and king into separate offices and functions, but the Lord God didn't design them that way in the beginning. When God created us to be His representative rulers--His ambassadors--over the rest of the created order, we were to be priests and kings in the earth. As priests, we represent God's nature, character and His culture. As kings, we represent His Kingdom government.
May I add that through Christ, we are a "holy priesthood", a "chosen people", a "royal priesthood" and a "holy nation". As such, we have been restored to our priestly function of representing and reflecting God's nature, culture and character before the world. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light
Remember, we are the children of God, not a a nation of subjects, but sons and daughters. If God is King, then we, His people, are also of royal line. Therefore, we have also been restored to our kingly functions of representing the government of God on this earth.
Questions for thought:
Thoughts to meditate:
The Lord God isn't interested in having subjects in His Kingdom. He wants only children, royal heirs to the treasures of His Domain. Our mission as ambassadors of the Kingdom of God, is to bring those who are enslaved in the kingdom of darkness to Christ, the door, so that He can set them free to enter into their full citizenship in God's Kingdom of light.
Personal question:
Among these four: holy priesthood, a chosen people, a royal priesthood and a holy nation; which do you find easiest to identify with and why?
I Peter 2:4-5 I Peter 2:9
