We Were Born to Rule, But Not Over Each Other

God created mankind to rule this planet earth, but not for human beings to rule one another. Man was given the earth to rule. May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men. When we don't become who we were meant to be or don't fulfill our destiny, we open the door to a whole new world of personal problems and situations. We can be allowing ourselves to be dominated by our physical environment or by other people. It can also result in things such as high blood pressure and many other physical ailments and illnesses. All because we fail to trust in the Word of the living God. It can even open the door to mental and emotional troubles.
Verse 16 states it perfectly. The phrase "the highest heavens" refers to the heavens above the stratosphere: the invisible world where the Lord God lives. Heaven is God's realm, but He gave the earth to man, not in a deed of ownership, but as a lease agreement of proprietorship. Here, God's Constitution tells us directly that heaven is not our territory. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.
Please note: Believers often speak of going to heaven when they die. Although that is true, God has made an arrangement to make sure that we don't stay there. There will be a new earth for mankind. Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. If we stayed in heaven, God's Word would fail, because He has plainly stated that He created us to have dominion over the earth. God's Word can never fail.

Questions to ponder:
- When we do not fulfill our destiny to rule the earth, what types of problems invade our world? What types of personal problems come as a result?
- What is the difference between a deed of ownership and a lease agreement of proprietorship? In what ways does the lease agreement best describe our earthly position?
- Describe what you think heaven is like. How does God's rulership enter into your picture? What aspects of His rulership do you think we will enjoy?
- What does the author mean when he states that God does not mean for us to stay in heaven? How does this concept challenge the popular ideas of what our "hereafter" is like?
- What plans does God have for us to rule earth? What kind of earth do you think we will rule? What kind of life might it be?
Remember, God is--and remains--absolutely sovereign.
He has chosen to limit His activity, or intervention, on the earth
to that which we, the proprietors, give Him permission to do.
The way we grant that permission is through prayer.
