We Must Preach the Gospel of the Kingdom
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God we are called to preach as believers of Christ Jesus must be carefully defined so that there are no ambiguities--having two or more possible meanings making it unclear, vague or uncertain.
Strictly speaking, the "gospel" is not the message itself but rather a description of the message. Keep in mind, we were commissioned by Jesus to proclaim the message of the Kingdom and not our own--or anyone else's--message. That message is described as good news for everyone who hears it. This is why it is so important that we get it correct.
Jesus never told us to go and simply preach a "gospel". There are many kinds of good news we could speak about. Many preach “good news” but it is not the good news of God’s Kingdom! There is only one gospel that Jesus the Christ identified as the focus of our preaching. He told us to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. He even set an example for us by making this the focus of His own message. Now read His very first recorded message, and the beginning of His ministry, in God’s Constitution: From that time Jesus began to preach and to say "Repent for the Kingdom is at hand".
And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Matthew 4:17-24
When the Gospel of the Kingdom of God is preached, people's lives are changed! Faith grows, and people are healed and delivered. When King Jesus called His first disciples, they immediately left the life they knew to follow Him. That is the power of this Gospel! No other gospel will so dramatically change lives!
Jesus the Christ proclaimed the good news that the Kingdom of God had come to the earth once again. When He spoke the words, "Repent for the Kingdom is at hand", He reintroduced His Kingdom into the earth. That is the Gospel. It wasn't news about a religion or a religious denomination or even a religion called Christianity. We weren't called to a relevant, modern day self-help, feel good message that builds our self-esteem or helps us be “good people”. That isn't the reason for the Gospel of Christ. Jesus' message was the good news that God's Kingdom had come on the earth and any who would receive it would be reunited in spirit and fellowship with Him and be restored to their full position and rights as children of God and citizens of His Kingdom.
Remember, the good news of the Kingdom is that we can regain what Adam lost. We can once again assume the place of dominion authority that God intended for us from the beginning.
I cannot state it too much, Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. That is the only Gospel He preached. Therefore, as far as we are concerned, as believers and followers of Christ, the Gospel of the Kingdom of God is the only true gospel. I am in great company when I make this statement. No other “good news” has the power and authority of the Gospel of God’s Kingdom. The message from His Father was so important that He instructed His disciples to preach it and only it: And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:7
Preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom was so important that it was the last assignment King Jesus gave to His disciples before ascending to go back to the Father. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Mark 16:15-20
We often hear the question, “Why does the church have no power?” I say because there is no Gospel of God’s Kingdom being spoken in it. They preach about the signs that accompany the Gospel, but don’t teach about the Kingdom as Jesus did. It’s like sitting in a car, talking about all the things the car can do, without putting gas in the tank and turning the key! You won’t have the signs—healing, deliverance, speaking in tongues, provision and supernatural protection—without the power of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
When will His church fully embrace His message of the Kingdom?
