Purpose Sustains Contentment
In this area, purpose sustains contentment. It supports a tranquility that refuses to be ruffled by the changing circumstances and situations that pass through our lives. The claim of being reliant upon a determined purpose is also evident in the life of the Apostle Paul.
Constitutional scripture Philippians 4:10-13 I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11) I am saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13) I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
The Apostle Paul was so content in his purpose, that even though he was being detained in prison, he wrote these words:
Constitutional scripture Philippians 1:3-6 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4) In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5) because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6) being confident of this, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Keep in mind, that this testimony of calm assurance reveals the attitude of a man of purpose. This was not a man whose path was smooth sailing, for Paul endured hardships that would have thrown many of us into disappointment and despair. Remember, Paul knew what he was ordained to do in this life. The obstacles that cropped up along the way could not deter him in any way from completing all that the Lord had given him to do, because his sufficiency laid in the Lord.
Paul's purpose enabled him to cope with a myriad of hardships and blessings because of his contentment in the all-encompassing care of the Lord. Paul recognized the inner peace that he enjoyed as the gift of the Lord who enabled him to meet all of life's circumstances with the same trusting perspective. He learned not to sweat the small stuff, as many do when they fail to know their purpose.
Once again, this unwavering journey toward a predestined end is possible for all who find and pursue God's purpose for their lives. Purpose sets a course after determining the end and encourages the traveler along the way. The gift of contentment is a primary benefit of purpose, for it lifts us above the everyday disappointments and trials that would hinder our progress toward the desired end.
Remember, and keep in mind...The Lord is the Author and Finisher of your life as well as your destiny.
