The Principles and Benefits of Purpose Pt 4
Purpose Introduces and Maintains Objectivity
Now for the word objectivity. Purpose introduces and maintains objectivity. It permits a view of life that looks beyond apparent surroundings and the obvious pitfalls.
There was a time when Syria and Israel were at war and the King of Syria had set up camp in a certain place and Elisha was the man of God in the gap. Elisha warned the King of Israel not to go there, for he would be ambushed. After this happened several times, the King of Syria called his officers together and asked them who was on the enemy's side. One of them told the king that the prophet Elisha was telling the King of Israel where the Syrians set up camp. The King ordered his men to find Elisha the prophet, so he could capture him.
When the report came to the king that Elisha the prophet was in the city of Dothan. The King sent a large force of horses and chariots to surround the city by night. When Elisha's servant saw the armies surrounding the city the next morning, he expressed his fear to Elisha.
Constitutional scripture II King 6:16-18 So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17) And Elisha prayed, and said, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18) So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, "Strike this people, I pray, with blindness." And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
Keep in mind, that Elisha's servant became fearful at the sight of the surrounding armies, but Elisha was viewing something that his servant could not see. What Elisha was seeing preserved him from fear and gave him an objective view of the entire situation. Elisha also knew that it wasn't time for him to die. No one was going to kill him before the Lord had gotten everything from him that He had purposed. So, Elisha looked beyond the physical realm with the eyes of faith and cooperated with the Lord's plan for his life, and the enemy became helpless in his hands.
I must say this... the same is true in your life. When you are within God's purpose, your enemies are powerless to move you until God the Father allows you to be moved. You must believe in God's Word. Remember, your faith in God's Word is your greatest asset.
In essence, knowing your purpose protects you from being distracted by other people's assignments, good activities, unrelated works and company. Purpose keeps you focused. What I should leave with you is this: Know the purpose that the Lord has for you. And the only way you will know this, is by getting to know Him in your life.
