The Principles and Benefits of Purpose Pt 1
Purpose Gives Confidence
Purpose gives us confidence. It assures us that what we are doing is the right thing that we should be doing.
Remember when Jesus our Lord healed the blind and mute man recorded in the Constitution in the book of Matthew? Let me share the incident with you:
Constitutional Scripture: Matthew 12:22-30 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23) And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?" 24) Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons." 25) But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26) If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27) And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28) But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29) Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30) He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.
Keep this in mind: Jesus was unperturbed by their charges, He used the image of a country, or a family, fighting within itself to show falsehood of their allegations. Jesus had so much confidence in His God-given purpose that He insisted that His power came from God. This is what will happen to those who know their purpose. You will speak boldly, with courage, unafraid and unashamed.
Knowing who He was, and His purpose, Jesus spoke boldly from the Word:
Constitutional Scripture Luke 4:16-21: So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17) And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18) "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19) To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." 20) Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21) And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
By applying to words of the prophet Isaiah to Himself, Jesus boldly proclaimed that He was the Messiah. He didn't actually say that, but His listeners certainly would make that connection. It was the knowledge of His purpose that gave Jesus the confidence to pursue His God-given tasks.
This same confidence is available to us. When we submit our will to God's purpose for our lives, we will have the same confidence.
Our Constitution states in Proverbs 19:21, His purpose will prevail. There are many plans in man's heart, Nevertheless the Lord's counsel; that will stand.
In other words, when you discover God's purpose for your life, you can have confidence and be persuaded that you will most definitely succeed. This confidence will also inspire others to trust in you.
Remember, purpose is the key to confidence.
