Shine His Light

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." Matthew 5:14-16
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:4-5
We are in a season of great darkness. Fear and deception cover people like a hooded cloak, blinding them and clouding their judgment. If you observe people you will see they are filled with anxiety and hopelessness. They are stressed, oppressed, depressed and powder kegs of repressed anger. Many who would identify themselves as Christians look no different than the world.
Just as a light shines brightest in pitch darkness, so should Kingdom citizens shine in the evil that has saturated our world today. People stumble around in pitch black darkness, feeling their way along, but all they need to find their way out is one person with a light they can follow! You are that light! Think of it this way: Our Governor in the Kingdom--the Holy Spirit--is the light that shines in us and God's Word is the power source for that light. If you knew there were people lost in a dark tunnel, fearful and unable to get out and you had a bright spotlight, I know you would go and lead them out! Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12
A light can attract people (as a moth is drawn to the light). A light can guide people. A light can enlighten people and reveal their environment. A light can uncover hidden dangers that can't be seen in the darkness. A light can give peace of mind by driving out imagined fears of the unseen. They stumble because they do not obey God’s Word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:8b-9
When we live according to King Jesus' Kingdom mandate and "seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness" we are protected and all our needs are met. Nothing that is outside of His will for our life can touch us. We are truly in the world but not of the world. I’m not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by Your truth; teach them Your Word, which is truth. Just as You sent Me into the world, I am sending them into the world. John 17:15-18
People need to see what "life in the Kingdom of God" actually looks like! In times of great darkness and despair your light will shine brightest. Let them see your peace and joy even as prices soar and shortages abound. Your peace comes from knowing that in the Kingdom, the King always provides for His citizens needs. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NKJV Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. Psalm 37:25
In these times of increasing rage, violence and death, you do not fear because you know your Lord and King protects you. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. Psalm 91:9-12
Even when things don't go the way we want them to, we have peace because we totally trust Him. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. Romans 8:28
Do not allow the light of His Spirit in you to be dimmed by the darkness of this world. If you find yourself being weighed down by the things of this world, feeling and acting more like the world than Jesus, it is time to cast it out of your life. Repent and renounce everything you are feeling that doesn't look like Him! Get filled up on His Word. There are people in your life that need to see His light shining through you. They need to be led out of their darkness into a life in the Kingdom of God. ". . .for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light." 1 Peter 2:9
Kingdom citizens do not need to fight. We are to lead and be an example of life in the Kingdom of God! For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. Ephesians 5:8-11
For the Lord gave us this command when He said, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’” Acts 13:47
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 5-7
As you can tell, I love God's Word, far more than my own!
It's time for us to shine and drive out the darkness by His Word and His Spirit. Amen!
