Perseverance of Purpose
Now, let us discuss the third phase of purpose. Purpose empowers perseverance. It was the perseverance in the face of a seemingly desperate and hopeless situation that kept alive the dreams of an individual by the name of Joseph, which you will read about in the book of Genesis in God's Constitution. The favorite son of Jacob, Joseph was hated by his brothers. This animosity increased when Joseph had a dream and then was naive enough to share it with them, not knowing what they would do.
Constitutional Scripture: Genesis 37:6-8 So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: 7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
Focus Point: Now did you observe here that Joseph was envisioning his purpose for life? Remember, Joseph was a teenager, and as a young boy, he discovered his purpose.
Please note: Joseph's brothers were even more upset when he had a second dream, and this time he told it to his father as well as his brothers:
Constitutional Scripture: Genesis 37:9 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
Focus Point: Now Joseph went through several ordeals before he reached his total and complete purpose.

Please note: Now many of us would have been very discouraged by the things that happened in Joseph's life. But, it was the memory of his dreams that strengthened Joseph throughout the humiliation of being sold as a slave and the injustice of being imprisoned for something of which he wasn't guilty. His God-given purpose enabled him to use the opportunities that was afforded to him and to cling to the vision he had received.
Focus Point: Remember, the same is possible whenever an individual finds and acts on his destiny. Though obstacles may be many and hard, your purpose will ultimately triumph. Very often these hardships are part of the journey that will lead you to the fulfillment of your purpose on this planet. Keep in mind, these challenges provide you with the necessary experiences for the task that lies ahead of you.
