People Ask If Tongues is For Today

Sometimes people ask what the purpose of speaking in tongues is in today’s world. Tongues are actual spoken communication between heaven and earth. A Kingdom citizen is speaking to the King from earth to the Heavenly throne. It is one’s eternal spirit speaking to their heavenly Father.
There are many who wonder if tongues are real. That is because speaking in tongues has been put into a context of something that is strange or abnormal. But the early followers of the Lord Jesus spoke in tongues, just as the King said they would. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues. Mark 16:17 And that Word came to pass on the Day of Pentecost: When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4
I will say that every since I have learned the effect of speaking in tongues, I am regularly communicating with my heavenly Kingdom. What I have discovered is that it gives me a peace in the midst of chaos. When I communicate through speaking in a heavenly language, things that used to bother me have no effect on me. My peace is increasing. Speaking in tongues keeps me focused on Him! You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3
The Holy Spirit will give you wisdom to learn to control it around others—both in the world and in religious groups—who don’t have a clue of what is going on. Some may think you are losing your mind. But it is for your edification and growth in God’s Kingdom. Always remember: For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 1 Corinthians 14:4 As you grow and speak in tongues more frequently, the more you will see how your life will change. It is our Kingdom language, embrace it.
Tongues today are as needed and beneficial as they were in the first century to Kingdom citizens. I can testify that as I am led to pray in His Kingdom tongue more every day it has become who I am. It will change you from the inside out!
There are Christian denominations that don’t understand the value of the gift of tongues and have not received it. Some even have doctrines that say tongues are not for today. This causes conflict and division. Speaking in the heaven-given language is a powerful unifier among those who are Kingdom citizens. Satan wants us divided and that is why he fights against the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Doctrines that dismiss parts of God’s Constitution as “not for today”, trying to keep them as part of history only, help bring division and separation. Again, language unifies people, religion divides people. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.” Genesis 11:6
The Lord God unifies. We are united under one King in His Kingdom. The heavenly language of that Kingdom is the gift of tongues. It is direct communication with our Lord and King. Satan creates division. This may offend some, but religion and denominational laws help in those divisions. People who say they are born again believers by Jesus the Christ should not be divided. But we have theological schools, who take positions against tongues and other parts of God’s Constitution. We believe that God’s Kingdom Constitution is eternal and not open to man’s opinions. His Word is the same yesterday, today and forever!
They don’t believe because they can’t see it without the infilling of the Holy Spirit!
They do not have the mind of Christ.
However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:6-16
Tongues is a gift of the Spirit. Remember that a gift isn’t earned, but freely given. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
When the Lord God gives you a gift, it is for as long as you live on this earth! For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29
It is no coincidence that the very people who will watch horror movies, visit fortune tellers, burn sage or use a Ouija board will call tongues "spooky".
The real damage is that religious opposition to the baptism in the Holy Spirit and tongues prevents some citizens of the Kingdom from having all the power they need to exercise an abundant Kingdom life. They may feel powerless and defeated, under their circumstances and not understand why. I can testify to this. Lucifer knows he is in trouble, on shaky ground, but God’s own people don’t realize that!
Tongues are our key to overcoming obstacles in many areas of our lives.
One of the main reasons ambassador Paul was so effective in the Kingdom was because he spoke in tongues, God’s Kingdom language, often. I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all. 1 Corinthians 14:18
I will close with ambassador Paul's words of wisdom and balance concerning the gift of tongues and their place in our Kingdom life:
Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying? You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you. But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language. Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.
1 Corinthians 14:15-20 NLT
Remember, your greatest asset is your faith in the King’s Word.
