~~I Corinthians 6:19-20
From time to time we will hear a story of a church being vandalized...trashed...burned down. People will say how tragic it is--how disrespectful--how sacrilegious. But it is only a building! It a building where God's people gather to worship, fellowship and grow in their faith. But the Holy Spirit doesn't reside there. The Holy Spirit enters the church when God's people walk through the door!
"Don't you KNOW that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?!" We often read scripture, understand it and memorize it. We can quote chapter and verse. But really let that get down inside you. Let it saturate your mind and feel the depth of those words. The Holy Spirit resides in you. Your body is not your own...You were bought with a price! And yet, most of us allow our lust for something vandalize the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we say "lust" we usually think of sex, but we can lust for anything.
Lust defined is: 1) an overwhelming desire or craving 2) an uncontrolled desire or appetite 3) a powerful psychological force producing intense wanting for an object, or circumstance fulfilling the emotion...Lust is never satisfied. Lust just wants more.
Today my question is "What does your body lust for that is vandalizing your temple of the Holy Spirit?" Food? Cigarettes? Alcohol? Drugs? Sex? Power? Money? (work-a-holics are often driven by a desire for power, money & success)
I have often heard people say that they are not hurting anyone but themselves when they pursue self-destructive desires. That is not true....Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit! You were bought with a price...your body is not your own! Wow! When that really sinks in, it gives you a different perspective. What condition is your temple in? Does it look vandalized and rundown?
Now I'm not talking about becoming an Adonis or a Barbie doll. We don't worship the temple. We make our temple as healthy, strong and useful as we can to fulfill God's purpose for us on this earth. I'm not telling you anything I haven't already preached to myself!
Go to a mirror, look yourself in your eyes and say "Don't you KNOW that YOU are the temple of the Holy Spirit?! You were bought with a price... your body is not your own!" Let the Holy Spirit guide you and show you the "lusts" that are vandalizing the Holy Spirit's temple. I encourage you to work on rooting out those self-destructive desires that drive you. God doesn't ask for our perfection, just to do our part. Honor God with your body. He will do the rest. Be blessed!
