Recently, we went to a Dr. Myles Munroe conference at a church out of state. The pastor seemed to have embraced the kingdom teaching. He had invited Dr Munroe to come, he seemed to admire Dr Munroe, they had changed their church's name to include the word "kingdom" and their banners and key words spoke of "kingdom". But the service still had many of the cliche religious traditions and attitudes. The congregation also didn't seem very excited about some of the things Dr Munroe was teaching. I have seen churches get a taste of kingdom and dabble in it. They may change their names and say the right words but I have never actually seen them change. Being in a strange environment allowed me to observe what was happening... and God gave me a revelation! One of those 'light bulb' moments of clarity! If we allow the old religious traditions and structures to remain, it will always just be "doing church" and never truly spread the gospel of the Kingdom.
For God's people to really be Citizens of the Kingdom of God, we must cut our religious roots off. We must evaluate all those religious habits and traditions that are so deeply ingrained in us and our churches. Until this moment, I believed it was harmless to continue in our comfortable way of doing things. It was harmless to "do church". It makes us feel good and we are worshiping God, right?? The Holy Spirit took me to three Biblical examples of why that is not true. He showed me why it is so important to evaluate and eradicate religious habits and traditions to be a citizen in good standing of the Kingdom of God... to remove the old so there will be no mixture with the new!
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33.
We have it backwards! We don't need to seek prosperity or healing; we seek HIS Kingdom and HIS righteousness! That is all He asks!
In Exodus, we read of the many trials of the children of Israel as they wandered the wilderness, seeking the promised land. The children of Israel still had Egypt and slavery in them. They wandered, grumbled and complained. They couldn't enter the promised land and bring the mixture of their Egytpian slavery with them into that land!
Lastly, God reminded me of Mark 2:22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”
These illustrations showed me God wants our total obedience, no mixture or remnant of our religious traditions and a new vessel to contain His kingdom without bursting.
Jesus stated His purpose for being here and it wasn't so we would worship His birth, death or resurrection. It wasn't so we would worship the cross. His death and resurrection gave us the "door to the kingdom" In Luke 4:43, He states His purpose:
but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” He also gives us access to the Father "No man comes to the Father, but by me..."
The first message Jesus spoke when He began His ministry was in
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Luke 9:11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.
Jesus didn't preach about himself or seek people to worship Him. His purpose was to announce the Kingdom of God.
Lets get radical and change our church, our worship, our mindset. Root out religion wherever it is. Evaluate everything in your walk with God and measure it against "seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness". Throw out anything that doesn't measure up. There are no sacred cows! God doesn't care about how much we enjoy doing church. He wants us to utterly destroy anything in our worship that isn't about "seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness". He wants our total obedience. He wants us to remove all the mixture from our lives. Religion is about rules and rituals...religion is man made. Remove religion from your life and with your whole heart and mind seek first the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness. He promises us that when we do that, ALL we need will be added.
Matthew 18:3 says and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. He made it easy for us, we make it complicated. Come to Him with the simplicity of a child. Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and ALL these things will be added.
Religion is man made, not God created. Religion is a huge principality. It is a monster that has tried to destroy the gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus preached. It creates rules and tries to separate man from God.
It is time for a revolution in the way we worship Him. It is time to change "church" as we know it! Stop seeking prosperity and healing and all your wants. Stop jumping, dancing and hollering in church but never seeing any power in your life! Stop the foolishness...Just seek righteousness. Be a Kingdom Citizen in good standing! Your King will take care of the rest.
We have a job to do--preach the Gospel of the Kingdom! Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
