Mankind, the Glory of His Creation
When the Lord God created this earth, He created mankind to manage all that He created. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
The Lord God created Adam to cultivate and manage all that He had made. Man was the leader. He was the only one to answer to His Creator; not any of the animals that the Lord God created, only Adam.
Notice, before man sinned (became disobedient) the Lord God gave Adam the fruit of the trees, not flesh from animals. That came after man disobeyed. It was after the flood that the Lord God permitted the animals to be used for food. Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth. All the animals of the earth, all the birds of the sky, all the small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the fish in the sea will look on you with fear and terror. I have placed them in your power. I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables."
Keep in mind, it was after sin entered this world through mankind's disobedience that the Lord God permitted them to eat the flesh of animals. When man disobeyed his Creator's command, he opened a world of harm to himself: sickness, greed, murder, envy, etc. Before man opened the door to chaos, there was nothing but harmony.
Whenever the Lord finished His creation, He stated that it was good. Notice that animals, fish, birds and every creeping thing were in harmony with its creator.
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is [i]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. NKJV
Now, remember this, He loved mankind so much that He created him in His own image. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...NKJV He then put him in charge of all His creation. The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. From the beginning, we were the glory of His creation. King David put it like this:
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, he birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. NKJV
The Lord God created man for His purpose. That is his reason for existence. He loves mankind so much that He has given us a second chance through His Son. All we have to do is to believe in His Son. That is the work that is required of mankind. Read what King Jesus said to those who came seeking Him:
They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one He has sent.”
In essence, we are to believe and trust in His Son. That is the only way we will be redeemed.
