Kingdom Marriage--Becoming One

But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Mark 10:6-9 In God's Kingdom, becoming one flesh is a transformation, a process. It does not mean that when you say "I do" that you instantly become one. I does not even mean that when you have sexual intercourse you become one flesh.
Becoming one is like gears trying to work together smoothly without crashing and locking down. Yes, that is usually a good description of the first year of marriage. Our "gears" are still learning to fit together smoothly, but there are places with chunks that don't fit and must be knocked off to operate smoothly. A Kingdom marriage is to operate as God says "Become one flesh." When that happens, you cannot tell where one ends and the other begins. But this whole concept flys in the face of the world's version of love, dating and marriage. The world will say you should keep your individuality, that your life is "separate" from your spouse. But that is not God's plan for His people's marriage. You cannot become one flesh and still have your own life. You can do that in the world but that isn't a Kingdom marriage!
