The word colony comes from the Latin word colonia, which is derived from colere, which means "to cultivate, or inhabit”. (Colōnia was originally used to describe Roman outposts and settlements of Roman citizens in conquered or federated territories. The purpose of these settlements was to secure the territory.) In other words, it is to establish and influence the territory for the home government and to be like them. The colony’s purpose was to be an extension of the home country in the new territory and expand the home country’s territory.
These colonies were to represent the culture—values, morals, and manners—of the home country. Heaven is your home country if you are born again by His Spirit. It also manifests the culture and lifestyle of the original government. This is why the King told Nicodemus that He must be born again. He also stated, then he would be able to see the Kingdom of God. There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” John 3:1-3 When Nicodemus questioned this, Jesus continued: Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8
Keep this in mind, when a kingdom or king takes a territory, the goal is to make that territory exactly like that kingdom. Here is what you need to know: The purpose is not only to gain land, but also to transform those lands so that they would mirror the country and its mindset, lifestyle, characteristics and culture. This is why it is so important to stay in His Word and stay consecrated by His Word. King Jesus made it very clear that we are cleansed through His Word. You are already clean because of the Word which I have spoken to you. John 15:3 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth. John 17:17 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the Word. Ephesians 5:26-27
Transformation comes by reading and studying His Word. Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11
Keep in mind, the governor was never chosen from the native country, because the governor had to be steeped in the original culture of the kingdom. This is why the Holy Spirit is the perfect Governor. He had to be one who knew the Kingdom and understood the heart, mind, desires, will and intent of the King in carrying out the Kingdom’s purpose in the territory. By the way, you are His territory. The Governor represents only the King. The Governor only expresses the mind and will of the King. This is all the process of the transformation. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you…But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:15-17, 26
The Governor isn’t here to express His own agenda or His personal policies. He is to talk the vision and communicate to us the Will of our King, translating it into policy and law that we are to live by. Remember that the Governor is responsible for converting the colony into the Kingdom. It is the Holy Spirit—our Governor’s—assignment to communicate, oversee and carry out the transformation in your life—the colony—according to the characteristics of the Kingdom. Again, this is why it is absolutely vital to stay in God’s Word. Whatever is happening in the Kingdom is supposed to happen in the colony as well, meaning in your life! If it isn’t, get into His Word more and pray for wisdom and understanding.
In converting the colony, the Holy Spirit, our Governor, transfers the Kingdom culture, values, nature, language and lifestyle to the people. I would like to add one more piece of information: The Holy Spirit makes sure that every citizen of God’s Kingdom takes on every aspect of His culture. We are becoming more and more like King Jesus.
This is all part of the transformation of the colony to the Kingdom. This transformation first takes place in your mind. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
Remember, your greatest asset is your faith in the King’s Word.
