Image by IrinaUzv from Pixabay To understand the Holy Spirit, we must view Him from a Kingdom mindset. Let’s review some key points regarding the Kingdom of heaven and the Lord God’s plan for the colonization of this earth with His citizens.
The original intent of the King of heaven was to influence the world with His governing presence through His people. This is why it is commanded to us to study His Word and be obedient in following His commands. Ambassador Paul put it this way: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 21CKJV Keep in mind that human beings were created in the image of the Creator and King. They were given the Spirit of the King (the Holy Spirit) to live within them. Not to be misunderstood, this was before the disobedience of Adam which caused sin. Disobedience is sin.
When Adam failed to obey the Lord God’s command, it was an act of rebellion in the Garden of Eden. There was only ONE thing in that paradise that they could not have—the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17 Of course, we know it was spiritual death He spoke of. From the very beginning, it was so:
Disobedience is sin and sin is separation from God
The departure of the Holy Spirit meant the departure of the heavenly government and its direct influence over the colony that we call earth. The minute they were disobedient to His Word, the Lord God’s Holy Spirit, left them and shame came. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:6-8
Note that after mankind rebelled against the authority of his Lord and Creator, the King immediately promised to restore the Holy Spirit—which is our Governor—to His children. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel. Genesis 3:15 From the third chapter all the way through the last book of the Old Testament, the King’s plan for the return of His Spirit to earth is revealed. It is all about restoring His Kingdom in His citizens on this earth. Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him. Daniel 7:27
He said to them, “I must preach the Kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” Luke 4:43
In the book of Isaiah, we are told of the Kingdom government that King Jesus would bring to the earth again: For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His Kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7
In the Old Testament it emphasizes the fact that when Adam and Eve lost the Holy Spirit, mankind became unholy. I find that the word holy has so many religious images connected with it that we don’t really know what it means anymore. To be holy is a oneness with God. It is reflecting His image. Listen to what the Lord God stated to the children of Israel through Moses. And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.” Exodus 19:3-6
In this instance, He is using the word holy in relation to a nation. He is not speaking about wearing religious apparel or jewelry, or any other items which are seen as being holy.
Our Lord and King requires holiness of His citizens. Holiness in this context means “I am devoted only to you. Not only am I dedicated to you, but my loyalty to you is not tainted by any other loyalties and has no ulterior motive.” No divided loyalties. True holiness is not worn on the outside, but radiates from the inside through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine. Leviticus 20:26
Please note: The Creator’s principles and character never change. Now let us look at what it means for the Lord God. He is true to Himself. He is faithful and consistent in who He is, what He desires, what He says and what He does. For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth. For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. Leviticus 11:44-45
We are to be sanctified—set apart—holy with the Lord God, as He is holy. We are to be one with Him. We cannot be set apart when we are filled with the world. When we are filled with the world our behavior and speech will not reflect the Lord, but will reflect the world! Keep in mind, we should remember that we cannot be righteous in our own strength but through the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind. Isaiah 64:6 For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking (the physical), but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
Yes! We need the Holy Spirit as our Kingdom Governor!
Our character, decisions and words will always reflect our Lord and King! So often people say “What would Jesus do?”; But do they actually reflect His character? As Jesus said, “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48 NLT
To be holy and set apart means that you are the same in public as you are in private.
There is no such thing as “secret sin”
Adam and Eve were one with God until they disobeyed His one commandment to them. Then they lied about what they had done and destroyed the trust He had placed in them. They were naked and ashamed, covered themselves and tried to hide from God.
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His Word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:5-9 NLT
Remember, your greatest asset is your faith in the King’s Word.
