The King of Israel describes the righteous life as a life of obedience to the Word and the ways of the Lord God. That is why I talk of this in my articles. We as Kingdom citizens should mirror the Lord God’s Word in our everyday life. Our question should be “Do we act and respond as King Jesus did while here on this earth?” He was always submitted to God’s Word. Righteousness brings reward and the link between the two is obedience. Reward is that which is added. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. Psalm 18:20 It isn’t something you work for. It isn’t about “being righteous” but about seeking righteousness. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 If you are seeking to be righteous, “all these things” will be added to you. You will receive your reward, both in this life and in the life to come.
David, who was the king of Israel, related to the Lord God as his shepherd, back when he was a shepherd boy guarding his father’s sheep. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Psalm 23:1-6 I relate to our Governor—the Holy Spirit—as my protector and guiding light. He tells me all things that I need to know. There are so many times I didn’t know where to turn or which way to go. The Governor led me from Brooklyn, NY, to Georgia and then to South Carolina where He presented Arlene to me as my wife. “In the moment” we don’t always see His hand on our life, leading and guiding. But when we look back, it is so clear! The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. Psalm 37:23-24 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:4-5
David called Him a Shepherd. I call Him my Protector and Guide. What is He to you? What do you call Him? I have three questions for you to ponder:
One: Why does the Lord God take care of you?
Two: Why does He give you green pastures and quiet waters?
Three: Why does He restore your soul and lead you in the path of righteousness?
Why? It is for the sake of His name. It is for the sake of His reputation! He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me. Psalm 31:3 Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake, that He might make His mighty power known. Psalm 106:8
When you rise in the morning, you represent the King. When you go to your place of employment, you represent Him, just as the children of an earthly king represent their father and king. Everything they say and do reflects back to him. If they looked like orphans, it would reflect badly on the king. We are His children and His citizens. We represent the Lord God and His Kingdom! Regardless of your lifestyle, you represent the King---good or bad, your choice. Don't let people misunderstand our Lord and King because of choices made that are contrary to God's Word! For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Keep in mind; you have a name and a reputation to uphold. Seeking His Kingdom and His righteousness requires that we guard our name and reputation. Otherwise the words we speak about King Jesus and His Kingdom will be void and fall on deaf ears. My wife and I always seek to live in such a manner as to guard our name and reputation. The Lord God wants you to do right so that He can take care of you. I am sorry to say that there are some who fail to obey His Word and yet call Him Lord. They dirty His name to those around them. King Jesus made this statement while He was here on earth: “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” Luke 6:46
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the Kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23
To those who seek after riches and prosperity, I say, simply, don’t. Kingdom citizens are to pursue righteousness and His Kingdom. We are never to seek riches or prosperity—nor fame or power either! Prosperity is a byproduct of righteous living. If it is God given there will be no sorry attached to it! The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 When you seek after riches, there will be sorrows attached to it, trust me! Keep living righteously and watch what will happen. You will find honor in the eyes of the Lord God and man. I can testify to that! He has brought me a long long way!
I am led by the Governor to close with these powerful words from ambassador Paul: I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:16-26
Remember, your faith in His Word is your greatest asset in His Kingdom.
