And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!
Immediately the Governor brought to mind that whoever preaches and teaches the Kingdom message as the Lord Jesus did, represents the King. It shines like a neon light in the darkness. And whoever rejects the King's representative (ambassador), rejects the King and His Kingdom. The Lord Jesus told His ambassadors what to do if that happened: Also He said to them, “In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
The judgment on those who reject the Lord Jesus' disciples (His representatives) and His message of the Kingdom will be worse than that of Sodom and Gomorrah? Christians focus on those cities as the epitome of sinful evil that God hates. That is true, but here the Lord Jesus tells us that rejecting Him, His message and even His representatives is worse! Let that sink in....
Let's talk about what actually happened in those two cities. The people there were in the category of abomination in the sight of the Lord God. Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground. And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.”
And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”
But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
Please note that abomination is a person or thing that is disgusting; an action that is vicious or vile. This is what the Lord God thinks of behavior that was being done in those cities. The men of those cities were so vile that they wanted to have sex with the angels who came in mortal bodies to the earth. Lot felt that he had to plead to the men of that city to leave the angels alone: Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”
But the Lord God had instructed His angels, who were messengers of the Kingdom of Heaven. And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.
That is how depraved the minds of these people were. By the way, the same thing is occurring in the world today. I want you to notice that the Lord God was fed up with their sinful disobedience, their behavior that was an abomination to Him. It was time for destruction. When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” ...The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar. Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Take note that Lot's wife was so entangled in that environment that she failed to obey the Lord God's commands.
Obeying the Lord Jesus message is vital to your prosperity in the Kingdom of God. If you don't recognize the Lord Jesus as King and Lord, you are in danger of eternal damnation. That isn't said to frighten you, it is to show you the position which you are in.
So many get distracted and caught up on religion and religious traditions that they refuse to repent (change) and embrace the Lord Jesus and His message of the Kingdom of God. From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”... And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
Remember, when you reject the Lord Jesus' message of His Kingdom and those who are obedient and delivering His message, you are rejecting the King Himself. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. Even the Governor, when He comes into your life, will reflect and behave according to the King's principles and laws. But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. A Kingdom citizen in good standing will always seek to behave according to Kingdom principles.
My last word to you today is this: If the Lord Jesus hates disobedience, you should too. Remember, the scriptures show us that rejecting the Lord Jesus and His message of the Gospel of the Kingdom is also disobedience.
