Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) Known as the "father of modern science", he was an astronomer, mathematician, scientist, physicist and engineer, who made great advancements for the world in those areas.
Helen Keller (1880-1968) She overcame the dual disability of being deaf and blind to champion for the deaf and the blind and help improve society's treatment of them in our world. She showed that being deaf and/or blind did not mean you were incapable of learning and they could be a useful productive member of society.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) He was classified as a religious and civil rights leader. He fought against color discrimination. Notice I stated "color", not race, because there is only one race and that is the human race. He led people to bring great advancements in desegregation, human rights and equality at a great cost.
Yet, they left their legacy in a temporary world. Read what our King stated while speaking of His return: “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.
“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. While in the temple, King Jesus told His audience that this world was temporary, but His Words will always be remembered: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Having said that, why are many people, especially religious leaders, so concerned with building themselves a legacy to be remembered? I find that they promote their ministry and use the principles and laws of the Lord God's Constitution to get people to support them. See here what the King stated to the people: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." If I felt any bit of pride, arrogance or drive to focus on my legacy, I would fall to my knees and repent after reading those scriptures!
There are far too many self-promoting religious leaders who love to have their image posted all over the internet and social media. Every web page, poster, social media venue has their picture, often in their religious garb. They want to be recognized as some righteous and important person. But the outside tells nothing of the inside. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Now see what our King Jesus said:
“The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
There is nothing new under the sun. It is the same today as it was then. The religious and religious leaders are blind and refuse to follow the King in spirit and in truth. They claim to be serving Jesus and yet they refuse to embrace and spread the Kingdom message that He preached while here on this earth!
Remember, there is no true legacy but the Word of the living God. Everything else is just as temporary as our mortal bodies.
