But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. NKJV
In my You Tube sessions, the Holy Spirit (Governor) keeps me focused on His Word; because we live by His every Word. God’s Word is our life, our source, our nourishment. The Lord Jesus makes that point to the devil: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” NKJV
Whenever I am attacked by those who have a religious mindset, I embrace His Word and speak as the Governor (the Holy Spirit) guides to say. This is what every ambassador should do when confronted, challenged or tempted. Never debate or argue. The Holy Spirit will bring to your mind what to say. The Lord Jesus made it plain when He sent out His disciples two by two.
“Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves. But beware! For you will be handed over to the courts and will be flogged with whips in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me. When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”
Keep in mind, it is based upon being full of God’s Word and having the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you. This comes through obedience to His Word. Don’t just study and read His Word but also apply His Word to your everyday life. You should be a reflection of who the Lord and King is.
Never attempt to fulfill God’s purpose for your life in your own strength. You will fail every time. You may also cause others to lose faith in His Word through your self-efforts. The ambassador Paul made this statement to the believers at Ephesus: So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Always walk in wisdom. Focus on being guided by the Holy Spirit. Take time with Him alone. Make time for Him. The Lord Jesus made a point to take time with His Father God in prayer after feeding the five thousand men. One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
There were many instances when the Lord Jesus left His disciples to speak with His Father. Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. He always kept in close communication with His Father. Shouldn’t we do the same, as citizens of the Kingdom and heirs with the Lord Jesus?
Remember, you have no ammunition to fight the enemy’s attacks and temptations unless you are filled with God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. God’s Word is the “bullets” and our Governor (the Holy Spirit) guides us. Always be loaded and ready to respond.
