Kingdom 104: The Sabbath or Seventh Day God's Way Pt 1
And Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Now let's get into the meat of the subject. From the beginning, the seventh day was nothing but the end of the Lord God's creation. He spoke the world and all that is in it into being and then He rested from all of His labor. This rest was for Himself. Take a moment and read: Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. Remember what Christ stated in response to the religious leaders of His day: At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”
But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” Jesus had a Kingdom mindset. The religious leaders in His day had a religious mindset. Two different mindsets, two different languages. It is the same in our day. The religious people had chosen to make a religious day of it. Keep in mind, this was after the fall and disobedience of mankind. Prior to that, Adam was to work and cultivate the land (garden). And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
Adam had a responsibility before he had a companion. He followed the lead of his Creator and King. He was to work and take care of his responsibilities for six days; then rest and communicate with His King on the seventh. The Lord came and visited him personally on that day. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” But in that situation, Adam failed to make his Creator's command a priority which led to his downfall.
Keep in mind, Adam wasn't subject to anything or anyone. He was only subject to God's Word. In today's society, those of us who are in the Kingdom aren't subject to this world's religious holiday. We are subject to the Lord God's Constitution, better known as the Bible.
The Holy Spirit (the Governor) did not reside in mankind in the Old Testament. Mankind, outside of the children of Israel, wouldn't give the Lord God the time of day. But the Lord God had a standard for His people of promise that they were to adhere to. In the Kingdom, there is only one thing that you should be mindful of: that His Will be done in your life. We are put here to assist others into the Kingdom. Back then, God visited the people through His representatives. Now we have the Holy Spirit living with us and in us, guiding us through our daily lives.
Please remember this one thing, the Lord God sanctified and blessed the seventh day for one reason Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. To sanctify means to set apart. It was a day of rest for the Lord God from all His labor. We are to follow His example. It is not what religion has made it to be. Before Adam was created, the Lord God set aside a day for Himself, which entailed rest. I will continue this in the next article.
Remember, your greatest asset is your faith in God's Word.
