Kingdom 103: What Does it Mean to Lead?
This morning, as I was putting on my shoes, the Governor (Holy Spirit) brought to mind that very question! In the Kingdom, to lead, you must first learn how to become a great follower. Also, you must learn how to listen and follow directions as they are given. The Lord Jesus made this statement while speaking to the religious leaders concerning His Father. Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” The Lord Jesus spoke boldly concerning His Father and Himself. Why? Because He obeyed and followed His Father's wishes.
A true leader learns how to become a great follower. Then and only then, they will become a great effective leader. True leaders learn to follow their King's command and interactions. I am speaking of Kingdom leadership. By following the King's principles and commands. You are representing your King and His culture. Moses was the Lord's servant and representative but after he died, his assistant Joshua was chosen to lead God's people. I stated, "God's people"!
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Notice God (the King) stated that as He was with Moses, He would be with Joshua. All Joshua had to do was to obey and follow the Lord God's instruction (commands). Note verse 7: Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This is how we should be when we are in the Word of the living God. We are to speak the Word with boldness. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Becoming a true leader in the Kingdom involves understanding who you are in King Jesus. He put inside of you the qualities and skill set within you in order to fulfill your purpose while you are here on earth. Once you have discovered your purpose by seeking first the Kingdom, no demon on earth can destroy you. Why? Because your purpose isn't complete. As long as Joshua listened and obeyed the Lord God's commands he was invincible. The same goes for those who are in the Kingdom (meaning those who are in His divine purpose for their life) You will be aware of this only if you seek His Kingdom first. You must know your priorities. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Drop the religious concept which leads to a religious mindset and embrace what Jesus taught from His Father, the Kingdom and all its culture (meaning glory). The Lord Jesus had complete support from His Father God. Remember the voice that spoke to Peter, James and John: Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
Leadership begins with obedience.
