Kingdom 103: Singleness From God's Viewpoint
To truly understand what it is to be single, we must first see it from the Lord God's viewpoint. In the book of Genesis in the Constitution, it states: And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” God had no objection or problem with Adam's separateness, his uniqueness or wholeness, because He created him as such. In fact, Adam was unaware that he was alone. Please keep in mind that the Lord God's statement was predicated on His own observation of the situation, on His own wisdom. That implies that Adam was totally unique and so whole he didn't miss anyone or anybody. Adam was so "together", so separate and so complete in himself that he did not even know he needed anyone else. Keep in mind, having a companion wasn't Adam's idea, but the Lord God's.
Another misconception we have gotten from traditional thinking is that Adam needed a wife. Remember, the Lord God didn't say "Adam isn't a whole being, so I will make him a wife to complete him". Adam was a whole being--complete--by himself. In essence, the Lord God stated, "I am going to make him an assistant or helper who will complement him and be complemented by him". That is what I have in my wife Arlene!
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. Moses stated the Lord God made the woman from Adam's rib. We need to understand that He made a second human being, not just for Adam to marry, but in order that he wouldn't be alone. In other words, you don't have to get married in order to not be alone. All you really need is a friend filled with the Spirit, another human being. I am not speaking of a friend with sexual benefits. That goes against the law of the Lord God's Constitution (sin and disobedience). By the way, once you have had a sexual relationship, it makes it very difficult NOT to have it, but not impossible.
Please note: The Lord God presented Eve to Adam. In other words, at first He didn't give Eve to Adam as a wife. Rather, He presented Adam with a companion just right for him. Also, it was Adam that was disobedient. Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Adam wasn't alone in the sense of being without some kind of companionship. Eve wasn't created primarily as a wife, but as another like Adam. Only after Eve sinned was she able to bear children. To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” It was disobedience to the Lord God's Commands that got us here.
