Kingdom 103: Dare To Be Obedient
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. When the Lord Jesus made this statement, it wasn't a suggestion, but a command. It was the central point of the good things that awaits us as His children and citizens of the Kingdom. Here is another command from the King: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. In essence, Jesus was saying, "trust in Me and obey My command". The simplest thing we have to do is obey; yet it is the most difficult. Now, the question is, why is that? Maybe it is because mankind wants to take credit for what the Lord God has done!
The reason Abram was so successful was because he believed the Lord God when He spoke to him. And, then he was obedient and acted on what he believed. Just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.
Centuries later, Abraham--by which he is now known--was recorded by the apostle and ambassador Paul for our encouragement: By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. Notice, even though Abraham had no idea where he was going, he obeyed the Lord God.
Please note: When you have total faith and belief in someone's word, the task of obeying them becomes much easier. When your father said "jump, I will catch you", you jumped because you trusted his word. The same can be said of Noah. He dared to obey God. And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.” Take notice of the next verse: Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
If one is to fully obey the King, one must address His command to the letter; not what you think it should be, but just as it was delivered to you. There are so many preachers, teachers and evangelists expanding what they think the Word should be, instead of allowing the Counselor (the Holy Spirit) to guide them.
Abram and Noah never questioned the Lord God. They just obeyed and had faith in His Word. Your salvation hinges on you embracing Jesus the Christ as your Lord and King. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We have to learn to obey the Lord's principles and laws if we are going to enjoy His blessings. By the way, just as the Lord Jesus was obedient to His Father, we should follow His commands and leadership. Salvation is simple, it is religion that makes it difficult.
