Kingdom 102: The Ambassador's Influence
When you are in the presence of an ambassador, you are in the presence of the government that they represent. The words of the United States ambassador are the words of the United States government. Diplomatically speaking, they are one and the same. When you come in contact with an ambassador, you are actually meeting more than just that person, you are meeting a nation, a culture--one that is most likely different from your own. This is what happened when the ambassador Peter met Cornelius. Peter realized that He was a representative of the Kingdom.
As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.” He was not to be worshiped.
Peter preached the Gospel of the Kingdom, being led of the Holy Spirit. Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” As ambassadors of Christ, we represent our "home government", which is the Kingdom of God. When people come in contact with you, they should meet not just a person, but the Lord God who you belong to and who dwells inside of you through the Holy Spirit. I am speaking religiously of course; for the Kingdom isn't a religion or denomination. It is a government with power. If you are seeking the Kingdom, the same thing will happen to you as did those Peter was speaking to in Cornelius' home.
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
If your spirit is in harmony with His Spirit in us, then what you say and do will reflect the government you represent and the Kingdom where you hold your citizenship. Remember, Jesus never strayed from His message, which came from His Father. He never looked to the left or the right, but always stayed focused on His purpose and priorities. We must do the same!
Please note: The Holy Spirit is the key to our authority. As long as the Comforter (Holy Spirit) is inside of a person and allowed to have control, then the Lord God's Kingdom can come. His rulership on earth can take place through that person. If the Holy Spirit (the Counselor) departs, then Kingdom authority departs with Him. That is what happened to Adam and his helper, Eve, when they were disobedient (sinned).
Therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
