Kingdom 102: Preparing for the Indwelling
The Holy Spirit is the Lord God's culture residing in you. Before the Lord Jesus went back to be at the right hand of His Father, He made this statement: “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. If you notice, all three members of the trinity are mentioned there. The Lord Jesus prayed to the Father, who would give us the Holy Spirit. He stated "If you love Me, keep my commandments". in other words, obey His Words, which are the Father's commands. When are we going to get a clue? It is not about traditions, customs, financial blessings or even grace. It is about being obedient to His written Word (His Constitution, or as religious traditions call it, the Bible)
Many people haven't received the Holy Spirit because they are trying to get to God, instead of embracing His Son; which goes against His Word. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. There are no exceptions! From Adam until the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit didn't dwell inside anyone. He could not, because the Kingdom government of the Lord God is holy, but human vessels which are designed to carry it are unholy. Prior to the Lord Jesus' appearance on earth, there was no sacrifice ever offered that was good enough or sufficient to make us holy again. This is why Jesus is called the Lamb of God. John the Baptist called Him the Lamb of God. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! It was through this process that the Holy Spirit was sent to us after Jesus ascended back to the right hand of the Father. Right about now, you should be praising King Jesus! Read what King Jesus stated to the religious in the Sanhedrin Court: As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, “If You are the Christ, tell us.”
But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe. And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go. Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”
As I stated earlier, the Holy Spirit wasn't dwelling in anyone in the Old Testament, but that doesn't mean the Holy Spirit wasn't present and active during the Old Testament days. On the contrary, the Constitution records many instances of the Spirit's work during that time. However, there is a significant difference that exists between the Spirit's presence in the Old and New Testaments. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit filled believers and came to live in them permanently. In the Old Testament, He only came upon certain individuals for a period of time and then departed. For instance, the Spirit came upon Elijah, Elisha, Samson and David, among others. Keep this in mind, none of them were able to execute the administration of the Kingdom of God on an everyday basis. Jesus changed that, with his perfect sacrifice.
