Kingdom 102: A New Order is Here, In the Last Stage
Throughout the Old Testament, the Lord God performed what this present age calls miracles through those who were His representatives. For example: The Holy Spirit came upon Moses and Elijah and Elisha, enabling them to do great signs and what we call miracles. The reason I say "what we call miracles" is because in the Kingdom of God they are a normal fact of life. The Holy Spirit came upon Samson and he performed mighty feats of strength. All these and more were the first process of restoring the Kingdom. In each case, however, it was a brief visitation and then departed because none of them were yet fit vessels for His abiding presence (the Holy Spirit). None of them were able to execute the administration of the Lord's culture or Kingdom on a daily basis.
From the very beginning of the fall of man, the Lord God had to begin the process of restoring the Kingdom back in mankind. Now, keep in mind, until the Lord Jesus came on the scene, none of the Old Testament representatives had experienced the Holy Spirit as an indwelling presence. Some of them did receive glimpses of this future relationship. The prophet Joel wrote: “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days."
After Malachi, the last representative (prophet) in the Old Testament, there was a period of four hundred years known as the "silent years", when no prophetic voice was heard in Israel. Keep in mind, that the silence came to an end when John the Baptist appeared on the scene in the wilderness, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God was near. The message was one of repentance and proclaiming that the Messiah was coming soon. Now, I want you to realize, although John the Baptist appears in all four of the Gospels of the New Testament in the Constitution, he was in fact the last of the Old Testament representatives (prophets). His death at the command of Herod Antipas and the introduction of the Lord Jesus' public ministry marked the end of one era and the beginning of another. In fact, more specifically, the baptism of the Lord Jesus by John was the point of transference. Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” From this point forward, a new order, would be established. “The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the Kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail. The Lord God's Word (law) is sovereign.
