Kingdom 101: Making Preparation for the King Pt 3
Let us pick up where we left off with making preparation for the King. Please note that there was a long succession of kings that followed, in which many of them rejected the Lord God and served idols. This was a total violation of the Lord God's laws. “You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
The first northern kingdom of Israel and then the southern kingdom of Judah fell to outside conquerors. The northern kingdom was assimilated into the Assyrian empire and ceased to exist. The kingdom of Judah was conquered by the Babylonians and the brightest and best of her people were carried into exile for seventy years.
Now through all of that, Daniel, one of the exiles and an official in the Babylonian government, received a very powerful vision from the Lord God that showed him that the Kingdom was not dead and forgotten. I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame. The Lord God was still working toward His model, preparing for the "fullness of time" when His Son would come and reveal the Kingdom. Daniel spoke of a "Son of Man" who would do great things. I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.
Several hundred years later, King Jesus would refer to Himself as the Son of Man, His favorite self-designation. Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” When King Jesus speaks of His return, He refers to Himself as the Son of Man. “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” When King Jesus replied to Nathanael, He referred to Himself as the Son of Man. This was the name He gave to Himself. No one gave it to Him.
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
Remember what I say, "if you allow people to name you they will define you".
Exodus 20:3-4 Daniel 7:9-12, 13-14 Matthew 26:64 Luke 21:25-28 John 1:46-51
