Jesus The Christ's Rule Is Sovereign
John 18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
Keep in mind, a kingdom is the sovereign rulership and governing influence of a king over his territory, impacting it with his will, his intent, and his purpose; manifesting a culture and society reflecting the king's nature, values and morals.
Also remember, that the very heart of any kingdom is its king. Heaven exists because of the creative activity of God. It is infused with His presence, character and authority.
Jesus came to the earth to re-establish the kingdom. God's Constitution leaves no doubt as to His kingship. Jesus also stated: "My kingdom is not of this world" and "My kingdom is from another place" clearly implying that He was a king. He was speaking of the kingdom of Heaven. Notice that Jesus stated that His kingdom was not of this world or not from this world.
Keep in mind, He never said that it wasn't in this world. His kingdom on this earth originated in Heaven.
Another thing that I would like to share with you. God created us for kingship, for dominion; and inside of each of us is a latent kingdom consciousness striving for expression. This consciousness reveals itself in various ways, such as in our natural resistance to being ruled and controlled by any other person and our continual longing to control the circumstances of our own lives.
Questions to Ponder:
1. How do you see God's sovereign rulership in the government of your own life choices and mindset? How does His will, intent and purpose manifest itself in the culture of your local church?
2. What earthly monarch can you think of who was considered to be a king and benevolent king or queen? Can you think of one who was considered a tyrant? How did these nations receive their identity from their leaders?
3. How has Jesus the Christ re-established the kingdom on earth? How does His kingship define the kingdom that He re-established?
4. Where is the source of the kingdom on this planet called earth? How did Jesus bring Heaven on earth? How are we supposed to do the same?
5. Do you feel that you have a natural resistance to being ruled or controlled by any other person? Do you feel you have a longing to control your own circumstances? What does the knowledge of why you have these feelings do to bring perspective to these feelings?
Now, keep this forever in mind, "We all seek power over things and over circumstances and that is what the kingdom of heaven promises. Jesus stated: I will testify to the truth of the kingdom, and when you bear me, what I have to say will resonate with the kingdom consciousness that is already in you. We connect with the kingdom message because it addresses the most deep-seated longing of our heart; our longing to be kings.
Reference Scripture: Daniel 2:44; 7:14 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.
