He is King and Lord--Part 1
Remember, the Constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven, plainly identifies God as King and Lord of all. One of the most common Hebrew words used to refer to God in the Old Testament is adonai, which literally means proprietor or owner. It is usually translated "lord". The personal name of God, Yahweh, although difficult to translate with complete accuracy, carries the same idea of master, owner or lord.
Focus Point: Keep in mind, that the biblical picture of God as lord is further enhanced by the fact that in most Constitutional versions, the personal name Yahweh, whenever it occurs, is replaced with the word "Lord". This is in keeping with the ancient Jewish tradition where Jews so respected and honored God's name that they would not even speak it or read it aloud to ensure that they did not inadvertently violate the Third Commandment in the Constitution by misusing His name. Instead, they substituted the word adonai, or "Lord".
Focus Point: So over and over the truth is hammered home: God is the Lord...God is the Lord...God is the Lord. This truth is reiterated even in the most basic confession of faith for a Jew, recited every morning.
Constitutional Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."
In this way the Jews were reminded every day that their God was Owner of all. This included the Heaven and earth. One of the Psalmists wrote:
Constitutional Scripture: Psalm 115:15-16 May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; But the earth He has given to the children of men.
Keep in mind, as maker and Owner of heaven and earth, God could give any portion of it to anyone He chose. He chose to give the earth to man, not for man to be owner but ruler and manager or steward.
Here are some additional references from the Constitution:
Psalm 24:1-2 The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.
Psalm 47:7-9 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne. The princes of the people have gathered together, The people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.
Exodus 7:5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
Psalm 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!
Psalm 16:2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord, "You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You."
Psalm 22:26-28 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever! All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You. For the kingdom is the Lord's, And He rules over the nations.
Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 24:7-10 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.
