As predicted by John the Baptist-- "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." "I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” "John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."--water was a symbol of one following the teaching of a certain teacher. And it was reiterated by Jesus Himself. "The promise of the Father" was the promise of the new birth (baptism) into the Kingdom.
We are all baptized in the same body. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.
Kingdom citizens are part of the whole body, infused by One God. That one Spirit Paul is speaking of is the Holy Spirit. This Spirit connects us to the Father, because He (meaning the Holy Spirit) is an extension of Himself.
