We Desire Influence, Not Dominance
You should always keep that in the forefront of your minds--Influence not Dominance. When you realize this truth, it most definitely assists you to understand why so many individuals act the way they do. This is the reason tyrants are oppressive and harsh. Have you ever noticed that when some people come into the position of power, their personalities seem to do a 180 degree turn for the worse? They taste the nature of leadership, but they don't have the character to manage it, or themselves well. This is the source of so many of the problems that we are seeing in this contemporary business world; as well as in our national political stage.
Whether you are aware of it or not, we all naturally seek power. A homeless individual who sleeps in an abandoned vehicle, or under a bridge desires power, just as the individual who resides in a mansion. We use so many different avenues to gain power, such as: position of influence, money, association and membership in influential or elite clubs or groups, material status symbols, such as clothing, houses, automobiles and jets, educational achievements, status in society, such as living in a certain environment or neighborhood and an influential job or career. There is nothing wrong with desiring to be successful, but know your priorities. Remember what Jesus stated:
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you".
The King wants you to be successful in all that you do, so you will be influential and a great influence for the Kingdom. Read what God stated to Abraham, and how he became the richest man in his region. Why would God make him wealthy? In order to give him influence. "I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you. I will curse him who curses you and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed". So you see, God the Father wants you to succeed, so that you can influence others.
