Freedom, A Paradox
When you think of the word freedom, where does it lead your thinking? Freedom is never without laws or principles. This is a paradox. When God created man in the garden, He gave him a command: "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die". You see, with freedom comes guidelines for the safety of the individual. What precedes lack of guidelines is chaos.
It is important to understand that the concept of freedom was not invented by man, but by God for man. Keep in mind, that freedom is not a Western or Eastern ideal. It is a Kingdom concept introduced by the King Himself as the very essence and purpose of man's existence. So, freedom is basic to man's fulfillment and critical to his sense of value. The spirit of freedom is synonymous with the spirit of man and resides inherent in his nature. it is for this reason that the desire, passion and pursuit of freedom are natural to all mankind.
Remember, oppression, suppression and any other form of slavery or any attempt to restrict the development and expression of the human spirit will always awaken the sleeping giant called freedom. This is why any form of slavery, whether by forced labor, ideology, political regime, economic oppression, domestic abuse or spiritual or religious oppression is the ultimate sin against the human spirit.
Remember what the King stated: "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed".
Keep in mind, freedom is a paradox.
Genesis 1:16-17 John 8:36
