There is Power in Unity
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments....For there the Lord commanded the blessing-- Life forevermore.
The level of stress, strife, anger and cynicism among believers seems to have grown greatly in recent years. It lingers, just under the surface. When anyone or anything scratches that surface, people pounce. They jump to conclusions, call people liars and thieves. They are so easily offended! They dive into vicious arguments and seem to "go for the jugular." Where is compassion? What happened to giving people the benefit of the doubt? What happened to dwelling in unity? These attacks are usually aimed at fellow believers, not "sinners".
What that shows is they are spiritually malnourished--completely lacking in the nutrition of God's Word. If they were full of the Word, they would be filled with the fruits of the Spirit: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Remember that one of the "seven things God hates" is "sowing discord among the brethren"! It is a very rare scripture that talks about what God hates. We wouldn't want to do anything God hates!
This could be many pages long, if I put all the scriptures that talk about unity among believers. If you find yourself arguing, angry, jumping to conclusions and blaming fellow believers; if you've got a hair-trigger temper, get into the Word and see what God says about the subject. Transform your mind...your attitude..your emotions..and bring peace and unity wherever you go.
Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous
We've got to change, the lost are watching.
